Angry Residents Attack Firemen At Asamankase

Some angry residents of Asamankese in the Lower West Akim Municipality of the Eastern Region on Tuesday night blocked all major roads in the Municipality and pelted stones at fire officers over their late arrival to a fire scene.

According to reports, fire gutted three shops; a cold store, mattress shop and one other shop worth thousands of cedis around 7:00pm at the Asamankese Kwawu Lane Market Stores and a call was placed to the Asamankese station of the fire station.

The police first arrived at the scene but came under attack from some irate youth who pelted the men with stones and sticks. The police fired warning shots into the air, but the residents refused to disperse.

The Ghana National Fire Service later arrived in vehicle number FS 438 from Kade after receiving a distress call but also came under attack with their vehicle windscreen smashed with stones and the bonnet of one of the service vehicles with registration number GP 5100 slightly dented.

Two persons-Seth Teye Wayo aged, 27, an officer and a civilian, identified as Richard Yirenkyi aged, 22, who sustained severe injuries, are currently receiving treatment at the Asamankese Government Hospital.
