Aspiring Member Of Parliament for Anyaa/Sowutuom constituency under the ticket of the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP), Hon.Dr Emmanuel Lamptey has hopes of succeeding the office of the incumbent MP, Hon Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, who has declared that she is not contesting for another term in the upcoming elections.
The aspirant appealed for the support of the Anyaa Sowutuom constituency, as he is confident of what he can do as a Member of Parliament, compared to what he has done as the Metro Chief Executive (MCE)
During an interview on Hot 93.9FM’s Mid-day News on Monday,Dr. Emmanuel Lamptey said:
“God knows what we have done and can do for Anyaa Sowutuom, as well as the delegates. I know that they will vote for me by God’s grace.” While he addressed the delegates of the constituency, sternly assured them of how effectively he can carry out the vision of the constituency.
He also added that he believes the members of the constituency will vote for him just as they have assured him. He interestingly revealed that he is NO. 5 on the ballot just like Former President J. A Kuffour and His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo were, during the past elections.Dr.Lamptey declared his undying support for the youth in his constituency.
According to him, 58% of their population are youth, and they are very well valued and cherished by him. He stressed that, he is extremely confident in the youth and is assured that the constituency will be made better with the help of the youth.
Upon persuasion to reveal why he took the decision to resign from the office of the MCE and run for Member of Parliament, Mr Lamptey informed that the though the office of the MCE is more comfortable, as compared to that of an MP he nonchalantly cannot look on and enjoy cozy of his office while he has more to unleash:
“It is all about service to the community. So if there is anything I possess that can inure to the benefit of the community.” He believes that he is more advantaged over his opponents, as he knows his way around lobbying and certainly, has many people at his beck and call”,Hon. Lamptey said on Hot Mid-day News.
The primaries will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2020, on electoral area basis per the Electoral Commission’s designation. The polls would be conducted in the 168 Constituencies where the New Patriotic Party(NPP) has sitting Members of Parliaments (MPs) to elect Parliamentary Candidates for the 2020 General Elections.
The primaries shall be conducted in strict compliance with the Covid-19 health protocols announced by His Excellency President Nana Akufo-Addo.
