Information reaching RazzNews.com indicates strenuously that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is set to unveil the world-Class song of budding UK-based Ghanaian Afro-Gospel Musician; Joseph Matthew aka JM titled ‘Nyame Ye’ as their official campaign song for the December general elections.
Crooned in a distinctive contemporary sound-a mixture of Highlife, Afro beats, and Hip-Pop, “Nyame Ye’, which literally means ‘God Is Good’ in the Akan dialect, and engineered by award-winning sound engineer, Francis Osei, is praise and worship song that talks about the essence of thanking God for overcoming obstacles and hard times.
Music is one of the most powerful tools. It can definitely change the mind-set, emotions and feelings of the listener. The right song at the right place and time can cause a change.
An inspirational song can lift the spirit of a sad person, listening to heart-breaking songs can slip a person into depression because it will bring to the listener sad memories. The right kind of song, with the right message at the right time can definitely bring about change.
Per this analogy, even though celebrated Highlife musician, Lucky Mensah has released a song titled ‘Nana Yen Ye Wodien Ni’ which highlights initiatives implemented by the Akufo-Addo-led administration, according to our source, the hierarchy of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)has insisted on using a Gospel song as the official Campaign song for the December elections looking at the struggle to get the country back during this trying times of the Coronavirus pandemic.
The source explained extensively that, ”the other reason is ,looking at the ’Nyame Ye’ song, it cuts across; JM’s ability to broaden the Ghanaian gospel music spectrum with the blend of Afro beats, Highlife, and Hip-pop means capturing the minds and hearts of the young and the old”.
When RazzNews.com contacted the management of arguably the best Gospel artiste currently in Ghana to ascertain whether the governing party has truly contacted them, a member of the team revealed that:
“We received a call from someone claiming to be an ardent member of the NPP who alleged that the hierarchy of the party wants to use JM’s ‘Nyame Ye’ song as the official campaign song looking at the lyrical content and the composition…So I will say we’ve been contacted but negotiation is yet to begin”.
Factually, Campaign songs are not to entertain, they are meant to influence and indeed they do influence. But the elephantine question is,can Joseph Matthew’s ‘Nyame Ye’ song’s influence rake in votes looking at how the song is now gaining popularity?
